Come Find The Israel In You!
Haim Gutin, North and South America Commissioner for the Israel Ministry of Tourism is in Israel with the Mission M25 riders.
Photographer/artist, Spencer Tunick, is currently staying at the Dan Tel-Aviv hotel with his extensive film crew. This is the photographer’s second visit to the hotel, although he has visited Israel many times before.
Tunick is known worldwide for his unique photographic projects, where thousands volunteer to be photographed in the nude in order to create large installations. These installations are created by combining the naked human body along with natural and urban landscapes, which are then documented with a series of stills and video shots.
Tunick came to Israel to shoot a special project at the Dead Sea, (the lowest place on earth) where a 1,000 volunteers participated. The project is meant to raise international awareness to the danger of the dehydration of the Dead Sea. Additionally, Tunick hopes his project will help with the selection of the Dead Sea as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature and bring international attention to the region.
At the same time, four Hollywood executives are also staying at the Dan Tel Aviv, while running location scouting for a movie that is to be filmed in Israel. This group is headed by Edward Zwick, an Academy Award winner director and producer (“The Last Samurai”, “Legends of the Fall”, “Blood Diamond” and more) and David Rubin, Deputy General Director for CBS productions.

Now on View at the Israel Museum: Christian Marclay’s Masterpiece the Clock - August 23 through October 20
A new exhibition at the Israel Museum will feature Christian Marclay’s video work, The Clock (2010) first premiered last year in London and presented in New York, Los Angeles, Venice, and Moscow. On loan from the artist, this internationally acclaimed masterwork of video art is composed of thousands of film excerpts illuminating the passage of time by means of time-related references, among them images of clocks, watches, or announcements identifying specific times of the day. Marclay extracted each of these moments from its original context to form a 24-hour montage that unfolds according to his reconstruction in real time .
Twenty-four-hour screenings have attracted long lines and captivated audiences, with many viewers staying to absorb the work for hours at a time. Marclay won the coveted Golden Lion award at the 2011 Venice Biennale, where The Clock was featured in the Biennale’s central exhibition. The work will begin its first Israeli screening at the Israel Museum on August 23 and will remain on view through October 20, 2011 .
Synchronized with local time at each exhibition venue, Marclay’s The Clock conflates cinematic and actual time, revealing each passing moment as a wellspring of alternately suspenseful, tragic, and romantic narrative possibilities. By referencing actual time specifically, wherever it is on display, The Clock transforms the usual sensation of artificial “cinematic time” into the thrilling sensation of real time in the exhibition gallery.
The Israel Museum’s presentation of The Clock is curated by Suzanne Landau, Yulla and Jacques Lipchitz Chief Curator of the Fine Arts and Landeau Family Curator of Contemporary Art.
The Israel Museum is the largest cultural institution in the State of Israel and is ranked among the leading art and archaeology museums in the world. Founded in 1965, the Museum houses encyclopedic collections ranging from prehistory through contemporary art and includes the most extensive holdings of Biblical and Holy Land archaeology in the world, among them the Dead Sea Scrolls. In 2010, the Museum completed a comprehensive renewal of its campus including the creation of new galleries, orientation facilities, and public spaces, and the complete reinstallation of its encyclopedic collections.

Ceremonial Tree Planting Center Opens At Neot Kedumim
Neot Kedumim, the Biblical Landscape Reserve in Israel, has recently completed a ceremonial tree planting center, the first of its kind in Israel. The Planting Center is located on one of Neot Kedumim’s hilltops, with a vineyard and tall preserved stone watchtower with breathtaking views of the Samarian Hills on one side, and the skyline of Tel Aviv and the Coastal Plain on the other. In addition to the valuable tour and the experience of the visit, the site offers its visitors to be a part of the ancient tradition of planting a tree in the Land of Israel.
The Hertz Tree Planting Center was planned, designed and built over the course of the last month, taking into careful consideration elements of design, construction, development. Emphasis was also placed upon environmental conservation, using recycled artistic components and materials which are appropriate to the planting site and the Nature Reserve.
The planting center is suited to tourists traveling as part of a group, organized mission or individually, including overseas youth. The center is handicap accessible.
Neot-Kedumim is the only Biblical Landscape Reserve in the world that allows visitors to experience the Land of the Bible as it was during the time of the Bible. Situated halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and only 10 minutes from Ben Gurion International Airport, Neot Kedumim offers over 620 acres of picturesque biblical landscape with plants and trees, water and agricultural installations as they were over 2,000 years ago. Guided tours and workshops (sheep-herding workshops, biblical cooking workshops) available, as well as special educational programs for all ages.
